Westbury Primary School is excited to be hosting the Westbury Maypole Festival, to be held at the Westbury Village Green on Saturday 21st October 2017 from 9am until 2pm.  It will be a fun and enjoyable family day for the school, local community and visitors.

This event will celebrate the 130th Anniversary of Westbury Primary School.  The old bluestone building on Dexter Street was officially opened on 6th July 1887. The Westbury Maypole Festival will celebrate this rich history and showcase the Maypole dancing tradition that has been a part of our school community since 1973.

We would also like to provide an opportunity for the local community to display their products and services.

Why not have a stall and show our visitors what you can do?  This is your invitation to hire a stall space to display and sell your work, product or service at our Festival. The cost of a stall site will be $20.  Please note that all sites are un-powered.  Tables and gazebos are not included. Closing date for stall applications is Friday 29th September.

If you need any further information or wish to discuss any promotional opportunities, please contact Amanda Taylor on 0467 097 791 or Eva Moran on 0407 317 040 or email westburypandf@outlook.com

The East Pointers

posted 27 Feb 2017, 19:25 by Mira Morningbird

Tasmania has been a huge source of inspiration for Juno-nominated Canadian trad trio, The East Pointers.  See below for tour dates throughout Tasmania (including Mountain Mumma in Sheffield and Chudleigh Hall).

The East Pointers

Many of the tunes on the trio’s Juno-nominated debut record, Secret Victory, were written on back verandas under Tasmania’s skies on their first visit to the island in early 2015, and it’s that album that has helped them to win over thousands of fans, and a stack of awards in the twelve months since.

When they returned to the Cygnet Folk Festival in 2016 – when most of Tasmania was on fire with devastating bushfires - they were paired up with Liz Stringer for the first annual Festival of Small Halls touring show, and inspiration struck again.

‘We wrote ’82 Fires’ with our good friend Liz Stringer while we were on tour in Tasmania last year,’ says Koady Chaisson, who plays banjo, sings and step-dances in the band.

‘The title came out of a conversation we had with a gentleman outside of a gig in Penguin who told us that there were, at the time, eighty-two fires burning out of control in Tasmania. We wrote the song as if ‘82 Fires’ referred to both a legend and an ocurrance that people knew would come back around some day.’

‘We’re so excited to be coming back to our favourite place in Australia,’ Chaisson continues, speaking from the last snow-bound date on a short US tour.

‘We’re hoping that we can find time to climb Mt Wellington again and we’re really looking forward to sharing the bill with Emma Anglesey, too – she sounds amazing.’

‘I went to the show last time they toured Tassie with Liz Stringer.’ says Emma Angelsey.

‘Everyone was captivated by the way the band make traditional music seem incredibly cool.’
