ANZAC Day 2013

The ANZAC Day ceremony at the Cenotaph in Deloraine was very well attended this year.  It was heartening to see how many young people were there.  Those of us, who have not experienced war, can not begin to imagine what it was, and is like, but those who have been through that experience, we hope they took comfort from seeing everyone there, who remembered and appreciated what they, and their lost brothers in arms, sacrificed for our freedom and lifestyle.

For the very first time, Meander Valley 96.9FM Community Radio was on hand to broadcast the ceremony live.

Immediately prior to the live broadcast, 91 year old Irene (Terry) Hunnam read a poem she had written called “Reflections on ANZAC Day”.  After the live broadcast of the ceremony, a conversation with Peter Ashton, a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, was presented relating some of his thoughts on his experiences before, during and after Vietnam and his present life in Deloraine.
