This Friday, Meander Valleys’ own MVFM is launching its first farming program “Farmer in the Dell” as the beginning of its local programming focus.

“MVFM has done a lot of work in the first two years of its operation to fine-tune its music programming”, commented Lionel Walters, President of MVFM.  “We are now moving into an exciting second phase which will include a wide range of local programming, featuring local voices. Farmer in the Dell is the first of a number of programs which will be launched over the spring and summer seasons which will give MVFM and its listeners a really local voice”.

“Farmer in the Dell is hosted by newcomer to the area Pearl Maya, and while she may be a newcomer to the Valley, she is no newcomer to farm life.  Pearl grew up in a farming family, was a member of WA Rural Youth for over 10 years and has been passionate about supporting farmers and local food producers ever since”

“Farmer in the Dell is going to be chatting with locals, looking at various primary industry enterprises and discussing some of the bigger issues that affect our farmers.  The local backyard is the focus of the program but we will also be peaking over the back fences of others around Tasmania and around the world”, added Mr Walters.

The program will be heard on MVFM 96.9 FM at 7 am every Friday from this week, and will repeated at 2 pm the following Tuesday.  For those outside the broadcast area, you can listen online at, or download a podcast from iTunes.

MVFM will be facilitating a short training course for people wanting to be involved in radio in the coming months to enable other residents of the Meander Valley to develop skills that may lead to their own programme, assist with recording oral histories or other spoken word projects or even the beginning of a career in the media.
