In May, local artist and harpist, Joanne Mitchelson,  received confirmation she had been selected as a finalist in one of the most prestigious Art Prizes in Australia, The Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize for 2013, for her work ‘Forest Trail: The Forest at Jackey’s Marsh, SW Side, N Tas. Quamby Bluff’.

“The Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize at the South Australian Museum is a prestigious international competition that challenges artists to tell the stories of natural science using a range of media.  Entrants explore the processes and discoveries of every scientific discipline in creative and unlimited ways” - Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize website

As a finalist, Joanne now has a chance of winning one of the cash prizes associated with The Waterhouse, as well as exhibiting in this prestigious exhibition.  Prize winners will be announced at the South Australian Museum on Friday 19 July 2013 at 10.30am.  A Gala Launch Night will be held that evening at which the prizes will be presented, the exhibition opened and the artworks go on sale.

Joanne is thrilled to have been chosen to exhibit and will be travelling over to South Australia for this event.

The Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize will be displayed at the South Australian Museum from Saturday 20 July until Sunday 8 September 2013.
