DRAGONBOATING Deloraine will be a more competitive club after a new sponsorship deal has enabled them to purchase a 20-paddler boat and trailer.

The Deloraine and Districts Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank recently agreed to a sponsorship of $1000, which made the purchase possible.

DragonBoating Deloraine members have built a 10-paddler boat and are nearing completion on a second, which are the size needed for use on smaller bodies of water such as the Meander River at Deloraine.

These boats are uncommon and will be used for events and competition within the DragonBoating Deloraine club.

The 20-paddler boats are used by the clubs across Tasmania and Australia.

Club president, Peter Ashton, said the new boat would not have been possible without the support of the Bendigo Bank and it would open a range of opportunities for the club.

“We are very grateful for the sponsorship from the (Bendigo) bank because it was timely and will enhance the clubs ability to compete with other clubs,” Mr Ashton said.

“A 20-paddler boat makes us a more complete club and maximises the potential for our members and our sponsors.”

The new boat was bought from the Dragons Abreast North West Tasmania club at the end of last year and was named in memory of Jenny Littler by the Devonport-based club.
